To assist you in understanding what Health Matters is about, here are some of the most commonly asked questions and answers…

Q:  What is the difference between Health Coaching and Personal  Training?
A:  As a Personal Trainer, I advise you on fitness, exercise technique and purpose, basic healthy eating behaviors and holistic health.  Together, we come up with a plan that will suit your commitment level, your desired results and your capabilities.  In this relationship, it’s expected that I will advise you and teach you what you need to know in order to reach your goals.

As a Health Coach, I don’t advise.  You are in charge of your own progress.  I am your support, but you set the pace.  You create your plan, with my assistance, and you set your goals based on your own expertise of you.  You are completely accountable to yourself in coaching.

In Personal Training, I have the information you need to progress in your fitness and health.  In Coaching, you have the information you need to progress in your life…I just assist you in identifying it and putting it to good use.

Q:  Do I have to choose either Personal Training or Health Coaching?
A:  Absolutely not.  In fact, often my clients and I will combine both services in order for them to reach their long-term goals.  The two services work beautifully together.

Q:  Do I need to come to your studio to be Coached?
A:  No.  You have the option to come to my studio, if you’d like,
or to do Coaching by phone.  Either way, outside of our scheduled sessions, I provide consistent support via email and phone throughout our time working together.

Q:  How will I know if you’re the right person for me?
A:  I offer an initial free consult for that exact reason.  It’s really important that you and I are a good match.  I’m happy to meet with you, at no charge, on the phone or in person, for a brief chat about your situation and your interest in my services.  It gives you a good opportunity to ask questions of me, and allows me to get a feel for your needs and whether or not I can assist you.

Q:  Is Coaching like Counseling or Therapy?
A:  No.  Coaching is very different.  Where Counseling or Therapy will look back at what has brought you to where you are today, explore it, and try to understand it… Coaching will identify the past issues, if necessary, but the focus is on “what do you want to do about it?”  Coaching is about moving forward from where you are now.  It’s about moving towards your goals.

Q:  I’ve tried many diets and exercise programs before and find that I   always gain the weight back or fall back into my old habits.  How is what  you offer any different from regular programs and diets?
A:  Well, first of all, I will never recommend that you “diet”.  My belief is that our eating choices and behaviors have to be “liveable”.  Often our food “issues” are less about the food and more to do with behavioral patterns that we’ve been practicing for years.

With the ability to give you the information you need to get fit and healthy, and the skills to Coach you through your roadblocks…you will find that my approach is very holistic, and proactive.  By setting goals, having a plan, using my support, you will be more capable than ever to move forward with your focus.  My hope is that you will learn how to live healthy and acquire the skills you need to continue on your own, for the rest of your life.
